Design and layout for the book La Bici, stories of the vehicle that changed the world and Uruguay, by Andrés Amodio and Fermín "Mintxo" Méndez, published by Penguin Random House.

A book that spans the general history of the bicycle, its arrival in the country, competitive cycling, everyday feats and stories, local projects, interviews, and even a guide to choosing your own bike.

For the interior we developed our own variable-width typeface, inspired by the lettering on the Montevideo Velodrome's sign. That typographic gesture opens each chapter and also appears in the pull quotes throughout the book, working as a constant nod to the local history of cycling.

Throughout the book a wide color palette unfolds, appearing and combining depending on the material in each section: the historical narrative in black and white, street and archival photography, or technical illustrations like the piece-by-piece breakdown of a bicycle. That range of materials, so different in origin and quality, was brought together under a single visual system without losing the spontaneity of each image.

For the cover we chose a BMX as the protagonist, the bike that marked the childhood of the authors' generation, in the same red that runs through the whole book.
