Gastón Rosa writes epitaphs on the street. Tumbitas brings together years of these street installations, texts, and photographs in a book published by Penguin Random House (Grijalbo).
We had to work with a highly diverse range of visual material: photographs of posters found on the street, social media screenshots, archival images, and contributions from different collaborators. We treated everything as bitmap imagery, keeping the halftone pattern visible so that texture could become part of the book’s visual language.
A two-ink book, black and the same pink Untonga started working with in his first tombstones. It's the color he had already chosen to talk about death without falling into darkness, and we wanted the book to honor that decision.
A book about death that is really all about being alive.
